For Sword and Planet

For Sword and Planet follows the Rosewood Knight, a lone warrior in an alien, fantastical wasteland, on his quest to marry the princess Lorenna Lerelei. When another knight begins to compete for her hand in marriage, Rose turns to a path of revenge. A mix of sci-fi and Arthurian-inspired mythology, this novel is like a Disney movie with a dark twist.

The Wider World of For Sword and Planet

For Sword and Planet exists in a much wider world, where all of my present and future novels take place. Ettiah's Ember is the name of the universe.

The Characters of For Sword and Planet

The Rosewood Knight is an ambitious warrior, the prodigal knight of the Heartlands. He serves the princess Lorenna Lerelei, in hopes she may someday be free of her curse and they may unite in matrimony. He will do whatever it takes to free her of her tower, whether Rose must battle dragon or another knight.

Lorenna Lerelei is the princess of the Heartlands, ruling over the frogs and marionettes with grace, but cursed to never leave her white tower. At night, she dreams of her mother, and in the day, she sings to the animals and talks to the Rosewood Knight. Lorenna dreams of a life where she is free to go where she wishes.

Haera Arco is a knight from the Midnight Sea, loyal to none but Lorenna. After a disastrous quest, Haera's faith in herself is shaken, but her love for the princess grows. As she works to regain her honor, Haera must compete with the Rosewood Knight for the hand of Lorenna Lerelei.

Morrel the Marsh Frog is a creature native to the Heartlands. He dreams of someday becoming a great knight, and serving the princess with honor. When his dream comes true, he ventures into the great unknown, far away from home, but for the sake of Lorenna, and ultimately, the realm.

The Codex

The book that all knights of the realm must adhere to.  The text that dictates what a knight must do to remain noble and chivalrous.  Despite it's predominance in the Heartlands, knights all over the land know its contents, such as the Evermeadow and the Midnight Sea.  It also acts as a history book, documenting significant moments in time, such as the ancient blood sacrifices to Ettiah of the Moon's Blood.

Cures for Curses of the Known World

In 14 Dim Light, the collection of known medical science is compiled into the book Cures for Curses of the Known World by one of the marionettes, named Alkalako. It becomes popular with the nobles of land, namely Lord Aea of House Delondra. After her passing in the same year, the original copy of the book is kept in the possession of the marionette called The Castellan.

Dragons

Dragons have a mosquito-like appearance, with six legs, and a pair of thin, filmy wings. Their body is yellow and flesh-like, with a harder shell on the topside protecting them from predators. A large abdomen resides on the end of their torso, and on their head is a long, thin, needle-like mouth. The needle ends with a circular orifice of sharp teeth, and can be used to spew flame, as well as drink blood, which their diet mainly consists of.

Dragon habits range from forest to marsh, their den typically being a large, hollowed-out tree. To get inside, the dragons crawl into the entrance and rise to their hind legs, appearing as if "walking" into their den to sleep for the night. Should a forest man cut climb to the highest branches of one of these trees, and cut into it, they would stare directly into the dragon's eye.

SPACE

This is the art + sketches I commissioned for my novel, Those That Might Consider it Red. All of the art was done by the talented Ella Gillespie, who's website I'll link. This page mainly serves as a point of reference for those curious about the premise and characters, though I may add may add more in the future. Use these top images for reference.

George- First image, top right. Last image. A mysterious stranger to the snowy city of Neverfall, and one of the main characters of the gothic-fantasy novel. He wields a rapier named Dark Shard and wears extravagant clothing unbecoming of tradional Neverfallian royalty. Is it possible George is not from the city?

Egress- First image, bottom right. Second daughter of the duchess of Neverfall. Part of the Damien royal family, she mostly lives in the shadow of her sister and her forefathers, who wage a bloody war against the Watcher and her legion of giant spiders. As the other main character of the book, she and George's story are intertwined in more ways than one..

Those That Might Consider it Red is a Gothic-Fantasy novel that follows Egress Damien, an inquisitive royal who investigates her sister’s increasingly erratic behavior in the days leading up to the yearly Winter Solstice Festival. With an eye for weirdness and an ear for secrets, she is determined to solve the mysteries plaguing her home as the eve of battle approaches. In the midst of that bloody fight, George, a newcomer to the same secluded city of Neverfall, accidentally finds himself the hero of an ancient prophecy and the main enemy of Allium, the sister of Egress. Now he is trapped in the snow-covered valley until the festival, while the Watcher, his supposedly fallen foe, slowly entraps everyone inside it in her own web of misery and hunger. This book is the first in a series that I am drafting.
